Warriors Lose 40-34

Video Highlights

Warriors

September 2 - Jake Sobeski Stadium - Well, there's no way to sugar coat it when you lose a game after being ahead 34-12 at halftime. I guess if it were a movie, you might call it Lake Lehman 2. The Warriors jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter as Nick O'Brien and freshman Jeff Skursky led the way. Western Wayne moved the ball on the ground in the first half, but hurt themselves with two fumbles and an interception. The Warriors returned the favor in the second half by imploding every offensive drive with penalty after penalty. The Warriors could not tackle running back Rob Siclari. The Warriors failed on a fake punt with two minutes remaining in the game giving Western Wayne the ball on their own 40 yard line, trailing by two points. The Wildcats drove the length of the field and scored with 15 seconds left. The Warriors moved the ball down to the Western Wayne 30 yard line when time expired.

Everything went right for the Warriors in the first quarter. Less than two minutes into the game, the first rush of the season for O'Brien was a 56 yard run for a score. Eleven seconds later, after a fumble by Western Wayne, O'Brien hit Joe Adonizio with a 21 yard scoring strike. Western Wayne showed they were not giving up when Robbie Sicalari ran the kickoff back 80 yards for a score making it a 13-6 game. The Warriors scored two more times in the first quarter--an 8 yard run by O"Brien, and a 2 yard run by Skursky. O'Brien added another touchdown in the second quarter, and that was the end of Wyoming Area scoring--for the game.

The Warriors amassed 375 yards versus 301 yards gained by the Wildcats. O'Brien rushed for 136 yards on 15 rushes and was 5-10 passing with 1 TD and 1INT. Tight end Trant Grove caught a 56 yard pass that set up a touchdown. Freshman Jeff Skursky played a fabulous game. He had 17 rushed for 81 yards, with nifty moves inside, coupled with power running. Aaron Carter hit four out of five extra points and looked very strong.

But it was Wildcats' Robbie Siclari that had the last word. . The Warriors took a seemingly comfortable 34-18 lead into the fourth quarter. Siclari then took over the game, slicing through the Warrior defense like butter. By the end of the game, everyone in the stands knew number 11 was getting the ball, but the Warriors couldn't make the defensive stops. Siclari finished the game with 23 rushes for 195 yards and 4 TDs. The Warriors needed one score in the second half to ice the game, but continually committed penalties that eventually cost them the game.

Next week--it doesn't get any easier at West Scranton.

Wildcats post four-TD rally in stunner

Western Wayne comes up with 22 fourth-quarter points to blow past the Warriors.

WEST PITTSTON – The game seemed to be over by the time the clock hit all zeros at the end the first quarter. Wyoming Area held a three-touchdown lead and Western Wayne couldn’t find any sort of offensive flow.

But Robbie Siclari piled up 164 yards and three touchdowns in the second half as the Wildcats were able to storm back for a stunning 40-34 victory on Friday at Jake Sobieski Memorial Stadium.

Siclari lead the way for the Wildcats by scoring five touchdowns and rushing for 195 yards including a 14 yard touchdown run with 18 seconds to take the lead.

“I was speechless, I don’t know what was going through my head,” said Siclari and his game-winning score. “I’ve never been so happy in my life.”

Nick O’Brien opened the scoring for the Warriors scampering 56 yards for a touchdown less than two minutes into the game. The Wildcats fumbled the ensuing snap and the ball was recovered by Wyoming Area and the very next play, O’Brien hooked up with Joe Adonizio on a well throw fade route to take a two-touchdown lead.

Western Wayne wasted no time answering when Siclari took the kickoff and cut it to the outside before breaking away from the Warriors and taking it 80-yards to the house to cut the lead to 13-6

The Warriors then put together a nine play drive chewing up 4:37 before O’Brien scored his second rushing touchdown of the game on an eight-yard sweep. Freshman running back Jeff Scursky took a handoff and plunged up the middle for a two-yard score to push the Warrior lead to 27-6.

Siclari scored again for the Wildcats as he ran over a defender and went 36 yards to pay-dirt to cap an 11 play drive that lasted over five minutes.

Wyoming Area’s defense found the ball when Johnny Rhodes was picked off by Ahmad Bouie. Six plays later, O’Brien dove into the end zone on a 5-yard sweep for his third rushing touchdown of the game pushing the lead to 34-12 at the half.

The Wildcats earned a turnover on downs early in the second half and Rhodes then hooked up with Nick Vanleuven on a 6-yard bootleg for a score to start the rally.
